I first started listening and collecting jazz records over 50-years ago and I’m still avidly expanding my collection of vinyl and CDs as well as attending jazz gigs on a regular basis in both the UK and elsewhere.
Jazz is currently on a roll in the UK,enjoying unprecedented popularity, especially amongst the younger generation, with bands and performers like Jacob Collier, Ezra Collective, Yussef Dayes, Nubya Garcia and many others, bringing new life to a genre that first appeared well-over a century ago.
Of course I still have a soft spot for bands and players I grew up with, not least Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny and Weather Report but I’m always on the lookout for great new sounds to play on “Jazz Lives” as well as the classics..
Indonesian or Indian jazz anyone? Don’t knock it. It’s great!
